Now, more than a decade later, the world has caught up. Pilates is no longer a niche practice recommended by physios or tucked away in community church halls. Today, it’s mainstream with stylish studios lining busy high streets and a growing global following. In fact, market projections show the combined Pilates and yoga industry is expected to reach $409.11 billion by 2032.
But with popularity comes a risk: the why behind Pilates can get diluted.
Reconnecting to the Essence of Pilates
Pilates changed my life and I want it to change yours too. In fact I know it can…that’s why I’ve created a 10-Day Pilates Challenge, launching this summer, July 1st. It’s not just a workout series. It’s not just classical teaching from the manual.
It’s everything I know and love about Pilates shaped by 13+ years of teaching, learning, and living and breathing it, brought to you in a focused, joyful journey through the 10 foundational principles of Pilates.
What Are the Pilates Principles?
I tell my clients:

✨ Because when we apply these principles, we bring grace, strength, and mindfulness into everyday life whether we’re walking, lifting, cooking, or simply breathing.
Here are the original Pilates principles that shape our challenge:
🔠 1. Alignment
Discover how aligning your bones and joints with purpose supports your strength, posture, and ease of movement. Alignment is your foundation.
🌬 2. Breathing
The breath doesn’t need to be confusing or complicated. Learn how to use your breath to connect, release tension, and energise your movements.
🎯 3. Centring
Often called the “powerhouse,” “core stability” etc but with LMP it’s a much more subtle sense of connection, this is about finding strength from within.
💪 4. Control
Pilates is about quality over quantity. Each movement is precise and intentional, giving you strength without stress.
🤝 5. Coordination
Learn how to move your body as a whole and in relation to itself and the world around you. Co-ordination is a skill we sometimes lose as we age and spend less time playing! Let’s play with Pilates.
✨ 6. Precision
Every detail matters. Discover how refining small elements of movement makes big changes over time.
⚖️ 7. Balance
Not just physical balance, but the balance between effort and ease, strength and flexibility, stillness and flow.
💆♀️ 8. Relaxation
We often hold tension in areas of our body without realising it. In Pilates we encourage relaxation to let go of that tension so we can move more efficiently.
🌊 9. Flow
Let go of rigid, disconnected movements. Pilates encourages smooth transitions and a graceful rhythm, like a dance.
