Yay you’ve made it, to week 4 of my Pilates and Wellness challenge and we are so nearly at Christmas! My favourite time of year! I’m so excited to share with you my best of 2016 Pilates routine this week. This one you can do all throughout the festive season and you’ll feel fabulous and ready for those LBDs; perhaps not so relevant for the lads on the challenge but it’s a kick ass Pilates workout with all my favourite moves of the year. See below for your three recipes and wellness task too…
Your Pilates Workout
This weeks workout is a best of 2016 Pilates workout. All my faves from the year in one routine here, keep the flow and feel your butt with my booty series, abs with the killer series of 5 and have a go at the famous teaser.
Remember to follow one of my warm up routines first.
Aim to do your best of 2016 workout at least 3 times this week and I also like to do 3 lots of 45 minute cardio/circuit training. My favourite ways to do cardio is walking in the city, running on the treadmill and spinning. I wish I could cycle through vineyards and run on the beach though; we can’t have it all.
Your Healthy Recipes
Chocolate and Coconut Porridge
Ingredients- serves 1
40g porridge oats
1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp raw cacao powder
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp maple syrup
Heat the porridge oats and coconut milk on a very low heat in a saucepan. Stir so that is doesn’t boil for 5-10 minutes. Add the coconut oil, raw cacao and maple syrup and stir through. I like to top mine with a sprinkle of cinnamon, raw cacao, walnuts and blackberries.
Date and Avocado Pot
Ingredients- serves 2
1/2 cup quinoa
1/2 cup black rice
Juice of 1 lemon
4 medjool dates, chopped
1 avocado, chopped
Handful sunflower seeds
I like to prepare a big batch of quinoa and rice on a sunday to add to dishes throughout the week so you can do that or prepare your quinoa and black rice by cooking to pack instructions at the time. Mix the quinoa and black rice together and squeeze over the juice of 1 lemon. When ready to serve top with the chopped medjool dates, avocado (I like to mash it up a bit) and the sunflower seeds.
Pearl Barley and Pea Risotto With Egg On Top
Ingredients – serves 4-6
1 cup of pearl barley
1½ cup of water
½ cup frozen peas
3 tbsp nutritional yeast
2 tsp mixed herbs
Sea salt and black pepper
Tamari soy sauce
Rinse the pearl barley then place in saucepan and cover with the water. Bring to the boil then simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes, keep topping up with water if you need to. 5 minutes before pearl barley is done add the frozen peas and cook through. Take off the heat and stir in the nutritional yeast, mixed herbs, sea salt and black pepper. Leave to stand for 10 minutes and in the meantime poach an egg for each serving. Serve the risotto in bowls with the poached egg on top and some tamari soy sauce.
Your Wellness Task
So there’s a quite a lot of sneezy, tired, virusey yuckiness going around at the moment and December can literally wipe us out right. We don’t want to miss out on all the fun tucked up ill in bed so this week, even if you’re not feeling under the weather I want to focus on some wellness things I do to stay well and keep my immune system strong.
Immune Boosting Steps
- Drink at least 2.5L water a day.
- Drink fresh ginger tea every morning.
- Take a detox bath, with salts and no phone.
- Take a good probiotic. I like to take a probiotic this time of year so I add sauerkraut to at least one meal a day and I also take Optibac probiotics too as I am drinking more alcohol and getting less sleep. Oopsie.
So now it’s time to prep for the last time! Get your diary out today and schedule in your Pilates workouts (remember at least 3 times). Write a list of the ingredients you need to get and plan what meals you’re going to make when. Two of the meals this week have something sweet in, the cacao and the medjool dates. This little dose of sweetness help me avoid the quality streets all day.
Remember to check in with me via email, Instagram and Twitter to let me know you’re getting involved. Happy final week of your Pilates and Wellness Challenge Christmas 2016. Thank you so so much for joining me! Let me know what your fave part has been?
Love, Lottie x
