I am not a runner and don’t think I ever will be however I do love a good walk and how walking makes me feel. Without realising I generally walk quite a lot in a week. I walk 15 minutes to my station and 15 minutes home. I walk 15-20mins from London Bridge to Liverpool Street and back on the days I’m working there. I then generally try to walk from A to B when I’m having the day in London mooching around. I love being in the fresh air and moving my body without strain or too much effort ha! You might be surprised because I’m in the health and fitness industry and used to be a dedicated ballet dancer but I don’t actually enjoy working my body TOO hard and to be honest I don’t think its necessary. I take Pilates and Yoga classes, eat a balanced healthy varied diet and I walk.
Walking is one of the most simple and effective forms of exercise and as a nation I think we should all get off our butts and walk a little more. Walking at a good pace will strengthen your heart and lungs, improving overall fitness. It will tone your legs and help with weight management and as with all exercise but particularly walking it improves your mood! Woo! I truly believe getting out in the fresh air, being around nature and moving your body effects your mood and happiness significantly! Walking is just super dooper!
I noticed how much I love my lifestyle recently whilst working in Newcastle for a few days where my lifestyle had to change. I had the best time ever working there but definitely noticed a change in my skin and health as I literally didn’t walk once. We went from a train, to a taxi, to a hotel room, to a restaurant, to more taxis, to sitting in a room, t0 taxi, to bed. It didn’t help eating junk food but I definitely felt very sluggish and bloated from being out of my normal routine. The weekend I got back I felt so happy to go on a lovely walk with my mum and boyfriend along the Thames with a little stop off for a refreshing and warming green tea.
