My New Year Resolutions 2018

lottie murphy new year resolution post 2018

Hey guys, happy belated new year. It always takes me a few days to adjust to the new year. New Year’s Day is a bit write off for me and I always feel slightly weird; like I should feel different just because it’s a new year. Really it’s only the day after the 31st December. Plus the over consumption of alcohol the night before doesn’t help that feeling of blurgh (more on that later.) I don’t think I’ve ever really done a new years resolutions blog post and I didn’t actually think I’d even make any this year but I’ve been thinking a lot this first week in January, uh oh! A little reflective perhaps but more about what would really make a difference to my life, to me. There’s a lot of self help material around this time of year which I’m all for dipping in and out of for inspiration but it sometimes takes us a little off track. Oh that girl on Instagram is going to meditate for every day in 2018 I better do that too or your best friend has signed up to do a new hardcore gym and convinced you to join her, but are these resolutions the best for you

10 Ways To Feel Good And Well This Autumn Winter

avocado-toast-lottiemurphy-blog-lifestyle-autumn-wellness-feelgood

I’m feeling very excited about this Autumn and Winter. The next 6 weeks are packed with fun social and work events then I’ll be hosting my last super cozy Pilates and meditation retreat of the year before spending Christmas in Sweden. When it’s cold, crisp and dark outside there’s nothing I love more than staying in with a warm mug of something delicious, lighting a woody candle and reading a book or watching a gripping series. I’m currently hooked on Stranger Things! With that being said, I’m out most nights this week at events and I know that burning the candle at both ends leaves me feeling zapped and fighting off a cold. I thought I’d share some of the ways I like to feel good and well during the cold busy months to enter the new year on a high…

A Day In The Life

Like lots us today, I have many different hats to wear when we comes to my “job”, putting that in quotation marks because I don’t see myself as even having a proper job. I have a life and a career and the two are very much entwined. I’m all about work/life balance and as a Pilates instructor and lifestyle blogger, there’s definitely no 9-5 or even Monday to Friday work week. I might be teaching, organizing events and retreats, writing, shooting, reviewing restaurants, attending a press launch, meeting brands and photographers, researching, travelling and within that I love working out, cooking, seeing my friends etc, so a day in the life doesn’t really exist but a typical day might look something like this.

Keeping Balanced(ish) On A Girls Getaway

Palma is the perfect girly getaway and it’s where four of my best friends and I jetted off to with our 54 bikinis between us last week. We are all into wellbeing and enjoy the feeling of moving our bodies and eating whole nourishing food, we even love doing little group meditations together and have just started to run our own wellness retreats but we also love sharing a bottle of wine, eating our hearts out and laying on the beach for 12 hours reading on holiday. Holiday life is very different to my usual London life, no workout classes or healthy cafes and it’s important to embrace this change and really change up your routine when on holiday but over the years of holidaying, I’ve found there’s ways you can still feel balanced and healthy by end of a getaway just with a bit of a tan and lots of happy memories. Here are my top tips to having a balanced girly getaway; to have fun and let your hair down but not end the week away feeling bloated from booze, stiff from lounging on sun beds and unmotivated to get back to your healthy lifestyle at home…

Create Your Own Honest Garden Pilates Sanctuary

Last week I was lucky enough to teach perhaps one of my favourite classes to date as a Pilates Instructor. It was at The Honest Garden which was a little pop up on the Southbank for Honest Tea which are a super yummy organic cold tea brand. They have launched three new flavours including my favourite lemon and honey (I mix it with spirulina at home which is so much nicer than water.) It was one of the most beautiful days in London last Friday, blue skies, a speckle of clouds, very warm, a light breeze and all at 7am!! It wasn’t cold at all! We overlooked the Thames and St Paul’s and got down to practice on our mats.

Lottie: 10 years of Dear Diary…

It’s mental health awareness week and last night I decided I wanted to write.

I didn’t really know where to start with this post.

I could have spoken about my mental health issues around food as young dancer or the dark place I found myself in last year but then to be honest it didn’t feel useful enough to share with you.

I wanted to share more than I usually do which yes is scary but also it’s the only way I felt I could really, just maybe make a difference. When someone has opened up to me or I’ve read an autobiography or watched a documentary where someone has shared an experience or a little piece of them, it’s made me feel trusted so I guess I’m trusting you as my readers. And I hope that in some way this post may resonate with you or someone you know in a small significant way that perhaps isn’t even relevant right now but maybe one day when you need someone to just feel like they know…

Healthy Eating “Rules” That Don’t Make Sense To Me

I remember waking up one morning a couple of years ago after reading so much information on dietary theories and nutrition, that I simply didn’t know what to eat. Should I have eggs, a smoothie, porridge, a steak!? With so many ‘rules’ and conflicting information out there, I felt overwhelmed and lost touch with listening to my body. I think we can all be guilty of this with the distractions and stresses daily life can put on us. Now as a qualified holistic health coach, I believe that stressing out over what to eat just isn’t healthy – and unfortunately, there’s not one miracle diet out there for everyone.

Three Healthy Snack Ideas

I’ve always been a snacker! I don’t understand how people can go long periods of time without eating. I turn into a slightly irritable unfocused mess when I am hungry so you will always find me with healthy snacks. Many of us feel guilty about snacking and we really shouldn’t. I mean, unless it’s a danish pastry, a bag of Doritos and full sized Easter egg you’re snacking on- naming no names (mum)…

How We Eat Is How We Live

Processed with VSCO with f2 presetHow we eat is how we live is an interesting concept but one that struck a cord with me when I came across it while studying to be a holistic health coach. Thinking about how we eat is just as important as what we eat and I’m writing this post as a huge reminder to myself too. Being kind to yourself is key and this really counts when it comes to your relationship with food. Eating when you are hungry is a huge one that I hear lots of people struggle with. Do you eat when you are bored, tired, emotional? Do you eat when you are full up already? Here’s some tips to start eating how you want to live…

What I Eat In A Day – Healthy And Sustainable

what i eat vlog

I filmed a little What I Eat In A Day video, as I know one of the hardest things people find when it comes to healthy eating is recipe ideas and also they struggle on days when you need meals to be quick and hassle free. I filmed this last week and was feeling really tired so just wanted to make quick easy meals. Healthy eating and the real way to happiness and body confidence is to adopt a diet that you can sustain with no restrictions…
