A Day In The Life

lottie x monsoon lifestyle

Like lots us today, I have many different hats to wear when we comes to my “job”, putting that in quotation marks because I don’t see myself as even having a proper job. I have a life and a career and the two are very much entwined. I’m all about work/life balance and as a Pilates instructor and lifestyle blogger, there’s definitely no 9-5 or even Monday to Friday work week. I might be teaching, organizing events and retreats, writing, shooting, reviewing restaurants, attending a press launch, meeting brands and photographers, researching, travelling and within that I love working out, cooking, seeing my friends etc, so a day in the life doesn’t really exist but a typical day might look something like this.

Healthy Eating “Rules” That Don’t Make Sense To Me

I remember waking up one morning a couple of years ago after reading so much information on dietary theories and nutrition, that I simply didn’t know what to eat. Should I have eggs, a smoothie, porridge, a steak!? With so many ‘rules’ and conflicting information out there, I felt overwhelmed and lost touch with listening to my body. I think we can all be guilty of this with the distractions and stresses daily life can put on us. Now as a qualified holistic health coach, I believe that stressing out over what to eat just isn’t healthy – and unfortunately, there’s not one miracle diet out there for everyone.

Three Healthy Snack Ideas

I’ve always been a snacker! I don’t understand how people can go long periods of time without eating. I turn into a slightly irritable unfocused mess when I am hungry so you will always find me with healthy snacks. Many of us feel guilty about snacking and we really shouldn’t. I mean, unless it’s a danish pastry, a bag of Doritos and full sized Easter egg you’re snacking on- naming no names (mum)…

Super Simple Homemade Muesli

I love love muesli for breakfast or topped on yogurt for a healthy snack and this homemade muesli is delicious and filling. It’s so simple but so much healthier than the shop bought versions which usually contain added sugar or oils. With this homemade version you know exactly what is going in it and it’s only good stuff. It’s so quick to make and will keep up to 30 days in an airtight contain so no excuses for a healthy breakfast…

Sweet Potato, Tomato and Pine Nut Salad

sweet potato salad lottie murphyThis is pretty much all my favourite foods in a salad and I would totally add feta too but today I’ve opted without it making this salad a vegan option. I also didn’t have any! Remember making your plate as colourful as possible is what you are looking for. I’ve dressed the base of watercress and quinoa with lemon and dried oregano to make it super tasty and then topped with roasted sweet potato, cherry tomatoes and red pepper. The whole thing is then finished off with pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes, avocado and a crack of pink himalayan salt…

Savoury Flapjack Recipe : The Sugar Free Snack

Savoury flapjacks Lottie Murphy

So I have been snacking on these savoury flapjacks every day since coming back from Catalonia, I simply had to share the recipe with you guys. Kimberly Parsons, author of The Yoga Kitchen, gave them to us for our packed lunch for the journey home from her retreat, so cute, and I instantly made a big batch the day after I got back. I’m a huge flapjack fan and I love snacking but most flapjacks, even the healthy versions, can sometimes contain a bit too much sugar for an every day snack. These savoury versions are a fabulous snack on the go as they are packed with vegetables, egg, oats, herbs and a little feta. I’m on to my third batch already…

Lemon And Chia Seed Muffins

Made by the wonderful Faye Saunders and complimented our yummy LiEBES bircher. I thought I’d share the recipe with you as well as some pics from the event. There’s no better way to spend a Sunday morning then with Pilates, healthy food, green juices and lovely company!

Comforting Chocolate Porridge

chocolate porridge blog post 2

I feel like I haven’t done a recipe post in ages! If you follow me on Instagram you may know that I needed some comforting this week. I got back from teaching on the Neals Yard Remedies Portugal retreat on Saturday and after being through the door for 15 minutes, I caught my hand on fire from using a hot pan and oil on the hob. I got a bit worked up and panicky of course and went to a&e where they treated me and I now am fashioning a lovely bandaged right hand. Comforting chocolate porridge was needed this morning…
