My Current Outlook On What Being Healthy Means

I’m quite relaxed when it comes to my choices around food nowadays and would say I have a balanced approach to health and my lifestyle in general. I try not to be too hard on myself anymore. Although perhaps to others it’s still a very conscious outlook and I guess that’s where we need to remember that everyone’s idea of balance is going to be different and dependent on so many factors. I come from a once extreme view where I was obsessed with eating ‘clean’, with performing my absolute best day in day out as a ballet dancer and even since then having moved into a progressive and fast paced health and fitness industry where my early twenties were surrounded by juice cleanses, the rise of avocado on toast and whole lot of abs inspo! I’m happy that I realised that taking care of yourself is not just about lycra and protein shakes.

I think my favourite vegetable is most definitely the mushroom; all types but especially Portobello ones. I made this the other weekend around 11am after a lovely lay in and some Pilates at home, it’s the perfect at home brunch dish and a nice alternative to eggs and avo on toast. Once you’ve mastered the art of getting the egg to stay in the mushroom, this recipe couldn’t be simpler. You could even skip the salsa part and just have the baked egg mushrooms which means you only need 2 main ingredients but the chilli salsa really takes this dish to another level.

What the hell guys, I thought the “it’s harder as you get older” thing was a myth. I used to roll my eyes at people that would say “just you wait!” The times I’ve had a drink for the first half of this year, I’ve really felt awful. I can feel it in my body, my hair, my eyes, my skin, my mood, my energy levels. I’ve even wrote an oath the last few times claiming I’ll never drink again but then Friday night rolls around, it’s a birthday, there’s elderflower processo and the oath goes out the window. So you wouldn’t think July was the most ideal month to give up alcohol but I needed it.

I’ve been a Pilates teacher for over 4 years now and have seen a lot of different bodies and every body is different. If you follow my Instagram stories you’ll know that my life is very on the go and during the week I could be teaching clients, teaching at press events, attending launches, meetings, working out, catching up with friends etc; so I tend to work from coffee shops for a few hours at a time. Over the years I’ve potentially got a bit picky with my coffee and freelance life has enabled me to find my little wifi spots to hang out and get cosy with my laptop. My environment is key when I’m working whether it’s smashing through emails, writing a blog post or organising my retreats, I like to be around a buzz of creative people all working on their own projects. I rarely work from home but when I do I’m way less productive and the coffee isn’t so good. You’d be surprised who you get chatting to working this way too. I’m usually in Central London between Fitzrovia, Covent Garden and The City. Okay did you know that if the bee’s disappear then a third of our food does too including most of our delicious fruit and vegetables. And the bee’s ARE disappearing. This wasn’t really something I’d given thought to until recently when Burt’s Bee’s invited me to Nicky from the British Bee Keepers Association hive in Oxfordshire to find out more and experience a little bit of beekeeping myself. After a beautiful sunny morning, drinking tea and learning all about the bee’s, the wildflowers and the story behind Burt’s Bee’s products, I returned home armed with my own delicious jar of honey, a new desire to plant wildflowers in my garden and was buzzing (excuse the pun) to share what I learnt with you so we can all do our little bit to save the bee’s, their pretty badass FYI…

Step Outside Your Fitness Box

I feel like in the fitness world, you have to be a either a weights person or a runner or a yogi or a Pilates girl etc but why can’t we be all of them. Fitness isn’t my everything, I danced and moved my body from the age of 4 and then at 16 when my friends started going to the gym and using the cross trainer, I found it a bit odd that you’d have to go and dedicate time out of your day to “workout” and do hip thrusters because I just did something I love which was dance but I never saw that as fitness.
