A Day In The Life

lottie x monsoon lifestyle

Like lots us today, I have many different hats to wear when we comes to my “job”, putting that in quotation marks because I don’t see myself as even having a proper job. I have a life and a career and the two are very much entwined. I’m all about work/life balance and as a Pilates instructor and lifestyle blogger, there’s definitely no 9-5 or even Monday to Friday work week. I might be teaching, organizing events and retreats, writing, shooting, reviewing restaurants, attending a press launch, meeting brands and photographers, researching, travelling and within that I love working out, cooking, seeing my friends etc, so a day in the life doesn’t really exist but a typical day might look something like this.

Healthy Eating “Rules” That Don’t Make Sense To Me

I remember waking up one morning a couple of years ago after reading so much information on dietary theories and nutrition, that I simply didn’t know what to eat. Should I have eggs, a smoothie, porridge, a steak!? With so many ‘rules’ and conflicting information out there, I felt overwhelmed and lost touch with listening to my body. I think we can all be guilty of this with the distractions and stresses daily life can put on us. Now as a qualified holistic health coach, I believe that stressing out over what to eat just isn’t healthy – and unfortunately, there’s not one miracle diet out there for everyone.

What I Eat In A Day – Healthy And Sustainable

what i eat vlog

I filmed a little What I Eat In A Day video, as I know one of the hardest things people find when it comes to healthy eating is recipe ideas and also they struggle on days when you need meals to be quick and hassle free. I filmed this last week and was feeling really tired so just wanted to make quick easy meals. Healthy eating and the real way to happiness and body confidence is to adopt a diet that you can sustain with no restrictions…

Healthy Chocolate Raspberry Bake

Raspberry Bake

My boyfriend always moans that I never follow a recipe word for word but I don’t really see that as cooking/baking if you do- it’s just reading and following instructors.  If you don’t have something or don’t like one of the ingredients then change it! If it turns out awful then who cares! For instance- my boyfriend said “why did you feel the need to put raspberries in this cake?” he he but for me- the raspberries totally work! They add a sweet fruity gooey texture to this choccie bake!

5 Reasons To Eat Breakfast Everyday

Breakfast has always been my favourite meal, it’s the first thing I think about when I wake up and possibly sometimes the last thing I think about before I go to sleep, sorry Jamie, I clearly love breakfast more than you.

I’m sure you hear all the time that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but why!? See below for 5 reasons why and then make sure you check out my video this week to follow what I had for breakfast Monday to Friday! I like to have something different pretty much every day, I love variety but if you find a breakfast that works for you and makes you feel fabulous then stick with that. The main thing is that you enjoy your healthy nourishing morning meal! It should set you up for a positive healthy day ahead!

Also listen to your body in the morning, sometimes I prepare my breakfast the night before and then in the morning I don’t fancy it at all so I make something else. If a meal plan you’re following is telling you to have salmon and greens for breakfast and it’s 6am, pouring with rain and all you want is a nice warming bowl of porridge then have the warming bowl of porridge…

Wellbeing Wednesday: Mindful Eating Results

In my last Wellbeing Wednesday post I set myself a challenge to eat mindfully which you can read here… My Challenge to Eat Mindfully.

Similar to a fad diet, the first day went fantastically and I got through the whole day with no distractions and then it all went a bit downhill. It is seriously harder than you’d think to eat sitting down with nothing else to do, I’m talking no phone, no TV, no magazine, nothing! It was such a struggle and I actually had to force myself by leaving my phone in other rooms and even sat on the stairs one morning because it was the only location in my house with no distractions.

Normally for breakfast I have a little routine, I make my lemon water and porridge/smoothie or whatever I’m having and then I sit on my sofa and put on Good Morning Britain. This is the only time in my day that I can have 15 minutes to catch up on the news and weather and I actually really missed it when I was attempting this challenge because one of the rules is NO TV! I sat and appreciated every mouthful of my porridge and felt full and satisfied but not too much different. Lunch and dinner were easier because I’m normally on the go so it was quite nice to just sit somewhere and take some time out from my emails/phone to enjoy what I’d prepared for my meal.

Foodie Fridays: Raw Mango Dessert

I am a dessert girl. After I’ve had my dinner in the evening, I always fancy something a little sweeter and I’m always perusing the dessert menu at restaurants no matter how stuffed I am. Some quick go to desserts I normally have at home are things like greek yogurt with honey and cinnamon or coconut flakes, oatcakes, dark chocolate etc, but the other day I just fancied being a little more adventurous and this Raw Mango Dessert was born and I absolutely love it.

Mango is one of my favourite tropical fruits. They are high in the antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin C so they are really good for your immune system- just what we need to keep us healthy in Autumn. Mangos are also great for aiding digestion as they contain enzymes which help breakdown protein and fibre. This dessert feels really indulgent and filling but is only full of goodness so you can enjoy completely guilt-free!

How do Spanish Women Stay So Slim- The Barcelona Series

If you follow me on social media you will know that I have just been on a wonderful break to Barcelona with my lovely mama.  We packed so much into our four days and really tried to absorb ourselves in the Barcelona way of life and learn as much about the lifestyle, culture and city as we could at the same time as trying to get some time to relax in the glorious warm sunshine! Barcelona really is a treat!

My first post from my Barcelona blog series is a question my mum asked to a very talented michelin star chef (Amelia) who was also very Spanish and very slim! We were lucky enough to have a Spanish cooking experience with Amelia. Spending time chatting, walking around the market and cooking traditional Spanish dishes with her! The question my mum asked was “we’ve noticed all the women here are very slim and beautiful, how do you stay so slim considering the spanish diet is known for bread, paella, olive oil, wine?!”

I wanted to answer this question with notes from what Amelia said and also from what my mum and I observed during our time in Barcelona. It’s always interesting to learn from other cultures and to get ideas and inspiration for a healthier lifestyle from around the world so I hope you enjoy this post…

Food Diary | What I Ate Today

Today I am grateful! I love my healthy lifestyle and am so grateful for the nutritious and delicious foods that are available to me. I am so grateful that I actually enjoy making fresh food. When asked whether I feel like I’m ‘missing out’ on eating dominoes pizza or cream cakes or McDonalds as examples, I honestly don’t get it. What do you mean missing out! I don’t enjoy or want those foods. I don’t crave them or feel the need to have them as a ‘treat’. I’m perfectly happy to miss out on feeling like crap, tired, getting bad skin, feeling bloated and unsatisfied. When you start eating healthy nourishing foods your body stops craving all that bad stodge and I 100% do not feel like I restrict myself in anyway. I eat what I love and what I want all the time and I am so grateful that what I want and love most of the time is amazingly healthy yummy food. So for a little inspiration or just for a nose here’s what I ate in day…
