Healthy Christmas Cleanse Soup

cleansing christmas soup 2

So it’s a week before Christmas day and there’s already various tempting chocolate selection boxes and M&S biscuits everywhere I look! Believe me, I don’t turn down the odd M&S biscuit but to balance out an indulgent couple of weeks ahead I thought I would create a tasty cleansing soup that I’m going to enjoy for lunches and dinners over the next week. I would say this could be a healthy spin on a minestrone as I’ve used cannellini beans, courgettes and tomatoes but I also added butternut squash and various spices to give it a seasonal christmas punch!

Why I Don’t DETOX OR HIT THE GYM in January!

Okay so its “new year new you” time and I don’t know about you but I am being bombarded with health kick propaganda from every source possible. This is great unless it’s your birthday and your boyfriend’s birthday in January! My birthday is 16th January, next Friday, (FYI yes I am accepting presents by post ;)) and I am certainly going to be enjoying a few glasses of bubbly and eating some cake! However this isn’t the only reason I am not a fan of detoxing/hitting the gym hard in January…

NOSHDETOX 3 Day Juice Cleanse Review

I’ve only ever done a one day juice cleanse before back in March (read my post here) which I really enjoyed and found pretty manageable apart from physically missing chewing food! I said I wanted to give a 3 day one a go and felt that half way through summer was a great time to go for it. This time I was lucky enough to review the Juice Fast with Nosh Detox.

Just to confirm I wasn’t doing a cleanse to lose weight and I generally don’t think that this should be the main reason for anyone doing a cleanse however I like the thought of giving my digestive system a little break and gut time to heal and as a way of getting my skin glowing mid summer and to balance out a few alcohol filled weekends!

This was a fruit cleanse too which I was a little sceptical about due to the concern of too much sugar however the great thing about it is the smoothies are whole pieces of fruit blended with super foods and water. Nosh do not separate the juice and pulp! “Fresh Fruit fibre keeps you fuller for longer and the fibre releases the fruit sugars slowly unlike pasteurised concentrated juices.” Nosh

Note: Due to the fact the juices were just blended fruit, I did decide to eat some avocado and some leafy greens each day too. This is because I know my body and I have relatively low body fat so it’s important for my hormones to eat good fats every day. As I am not strict with any detox or cleanse I do, I believe this was important.

“Every day, we eat things we shouldn’t and come into contact with all sorts of toxins without even knowing it. We are not designed to deal with this sort of overload and can become backed up. Our systems then start to fail.  Doing a detox allows your body to catch up and process all of that build up bringing your body into homeostasis or balance.”

Day 1

The first thought I normally have when I wake up is… BREAKFAST- MMMM! This is what I had when I woke up and then realised oh actually I have a ginger and lemon tonic and then aren’t supposed to drink my first smoothie until 11am eek! However after my hot water and lemon, a nice shower and a little down time watching the news, I didn’t feel hungry or like I needed breakfast at all. I felt energised and ready to get to work.

Super Green Mango Juice Recipe

I was so lucky to win a Sage Appliance Juicer from Planet Organic a few weeks ago and it has definitely come into good hands. This juice is so so delicious! Mango is one of my favourite fruits as it’s pretty naturally sweet and I wanted to change up my usual green juice. As the sun was shining I thought this tropical twist would be perfect!

Ingredients

  • 2 small carrots
  • 1 kiwi (peeled)
  • 1 cox apple
  • handful kale
  • 2 handfuls spinach
  • half a cucumber
  • half a small mango (chopped)
  • 2 tsp flaxseeds
  • 2 tsp chia seeds

Juice everything except the spinach, kale, mango, flax and chia seeds. Then add spinach and kale to blender with the juice and blend then add the mango, flax and chia seeds and blend. I also add some ice to make nice a cold! Enjoy!

My One Day Juice Cleanse Experience with Fruveju

Glowing skin, improved mental focus, weight loss and improved digestion are just some of the claimed benefits of doing a juice cleanse. Juice cleanses are everywhere and have been for a while now, I’d not really looked into them until recently as I thought perhaps it was just another fad diet but after researching a little more, talking to friends and becoming more open minded, I thought I’d give one a go.

Check out my… Little Instagram Video on the day

I don’t believe in diets and as you know if you follow me, my ethos is to live a healthy balanced sustainable lifestyle to promote wellbeing and happiness. Lots of people promote incorporating juice cleanses or simply drinking a juice a day into your lifestyle. Claiming that the juiced vegetables and fruits aid detoxing and ridding the body of toxins. A juice floods the body with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and plant based protein without having to work hard to digest. So I thought it’d be pretty fun to get this surge of healthiness and luckily Fruveju sent me there 1 day Explore Cleanse to try.

The Holidays are Coming and so is the FOOD and BOOZE!

all-i-want-for-christmas-is-a-good-nights-sleepI’m a healthy eater, you may have guessed, but if you know me well you’ll know I have a sweet tooth and I do let myself off and have a pizza, takeaway or cake sometimes! Mmmmm cake! Most of the year it’s easy to manage as there’s only one occasion or outing a week where unhealthy eating/drinking is generally required and the rest of time I love to have a clean varied diet. It makes me feel good and feeling good is damn good!

Now there’s something about Christmas which makes staying balanced oh so much more difficult. For one there’s the numerous Christmas lunches, dinners and parties, the constant flow of celebration chocolates, the work drinks, mince pies, advent calender, then there’s my constant need to bake desserts when it’s cold and this is all even before the big day!

Cosy Curry Nights are the BEST Nights

I love girly evenings in and I am the master of them! I love being the hostess and my house has hosted many a girly sleepover in its time! I think it’s important to always make time for your besties and we don’t have to go out to have a good time. Just being in each others company is important as we completely off load our troubles, have a moan, have a giggle, have a gossip, debate, dig deep and discover new things (last week we thought we’d try to read each other auras in my garden!)

Our weekly gatherings are usually at my house but last Friday we went to Emily’s (who was cat sitting) and she (Emily not the cat) cooked us an amazingly detoxing vegetable thai curry and scrummy cacao dessert! I’ve asked Emily’s permission to post the recipe for the curry on here as it was so delicious and literally made us all feel very cleansed! It shows you can have a girly curry night in your PJs and be healthy AND without breaking the bank!!

Ban Diets!

It’s Monday morning and once again you’re starting a new diet. You start off well with porridge and water for breakfast, you feel hungry all morning but Monday willpower gets you to your chicken salad at lunch, afternoon cravings makes you wonder what healthy snack you can nibble and opt for a handful of nuts but there’s mini cupcakes in the staffroom and nobodies around so you scoff two, (they don’t count), you feel bad so dinner is salmon and lettuce leafs but by the evening you are just craving chocolate and treat yourself for being good by having a chocolate biscuit dunked in tea as well as your healthy fruit and nuts. Tuesday starts off good again but progressively you slip back to old habits throughout the day and by Wednesday you have completely forgotten you started the week with a mission to be ‘good!’
