I live a health conscious lifestyle and have done for many years now and my approach is very holistic; I strongly believe in the balance between body mind and spirit. When they aren’t in balance things don’t flow smoothly and I simply don’t feel well. This is something I’ve become much more aware of in the last year. Sometimes the day flows smoothly, I wake up and feel motivated, productive and calm. Other days when things don’t run as smoothly and I constantly feel distracted; there’s a few things I do to feel more balanced and in the flow again. It might be that I’m overwhelmed with work or rushing from A to B and this is when there’s nothing I love more than to get home switch the world out and find that inner balance again. When I start to feel stress building up, I know I need to simplify life. I close all my tabs, shut my laptop down, unload my rucksack, have a shower and then there’s nothing more I love doing to feel refreshed than enjoying an aromatic brew of tea and get my body moving…
LIVE THE DAY IN BALANCE
So the following steps can be done at any time during the day but I tend to do them when I walk through the door after a day out and about. When there’s been tons on my mind, when I’ve been on and off my phone all day, meeting different people, working out, teaching Pilates and my main cause of tension and stress, travelling on busy public transport. I like to start my evening feeling balanced rather than bring any stress home with me.
I very rarely go on my laptop at home anymore which has made a huge difference to my overall sense of wellness, my stress levels and my sleep patterns. So I like to off load by sorting my bag out, putting my laptop away, getting showered and changed from the clothes I’ve been wearing that day. I’ve got into the habit of tidying my room daily too which stop clutter building up and means my bedroom is always a place of space and peace.
When the seasons change, I start to crave festive spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and liquorice. Yogi Tea absolutely rule for these spices and flavours. They are a natural and sustainable brand with a strong connection to yoga which I love as their principles are very much about the balance between body, mind and spirit which is very similar to Pilates and the way I like to live my life in general. I’ve enjoyed their teas for years especially because of the cute little quotes on their tea bags.
My favourite teas are Heartwarming and Inner Harmony. Heartwarming tea is one I enjoy throughout the day as it helps warm, strengthen and add fresh vitality. It includes basil, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, chilli and black pepper. The basil is such a unique flavour that really comes through. The Inner Harmony Tea is my favourite tea to have after a busy day as it’s aim is to help you live the day in balance with lemon balm, rooibos, liquorice, cinnamon, cocoa shells, basil and peppermint.
The perfect cup of Yogi Tea takes 7 minutes in average to brew leading us nicely on to movement time. Yogi Tea challenged me to fill these 7 minutes with some mindful activities.
PILATES FLOW TIME
Movement is so important to me, without it in my life I really don’t think I’d be happy at all. I’ve been doing Pilates and yoga for nearly 10 years now and it makes me feel connected to myself and strong and flexible not just in my body but in my mind. Since we are honouring Tea and the yogi master Yogi Bhajan, who bought his first blend of Yogi Tea over from Indian 40 years ago, I created a 7 minute Yogi Pilates Flow that slots perfectly into this time. So I’ll bring my brewing tea to my calm uncluttered bedroom, roll my mat out and get moving, flowing and breathing back to balance.
