The weekends can fly by and there’s nothing worse than that Sunday night feeling wondering where those two days went, either from being slumped on the sofa watching reality TV because you’ve had exhausting work week or because you’ve been running from A to B with kids/parents, doing chores and somehow attending five social occasions across two days. A couple of weekends ago I went to Rye, Jamie and I made a conscious decision to really make the most of our little trip and we really did have one of the best weekends, I’ve come back with lots of fresh ideas to make my weekends more amazing and I’m really excited to share them with you. Now you can wake up to that Monday morning alarm with a smile on your face…
When In Rye
I didn’t take my phone out of the hotel room. We went on a walk around the village, a trek to the beach, for a pub lunch, a massage and two delicious dinners, I would recommend Landgate Bistro by the way, and it was so nice to do all those things without the distraction of my phone. When I got back to the hotel room, I would check up on my messages briefly and have a quick scroll through instagram, maybe uploading a pic but then really craved just curling up with my book and left my phone on the other side of the room.
As I have to be quite glued to my phone during the working week, I’m trying to become less attached to it at the weekend and it’s really improving how I use my time. I always feel so crappy when I’ve meant to do something productive on a Saturday afternoon and then a quick flick on instagram becomes two hours of watching youtube videos, snapchatting and getting hooked into a whatsapp group conversation. Give yourself some guidelines, maybe you don’t take your phone to dinner one night or you say to yourself you’ll only spend 2 hours a day on your phone each day. These guidelines will free up so much time and really open your eyes to what you may have been missing staring down at that screen.
When In Rye
Jamie planned a long walk from our hotel in Rye, through a sheep field, marshlands, a very quiet forest to a deserted but beautiful beach. As you can see in the photos, there’s was literally nobody around and it was a gorgeous warm day! One of my favourite things to do is to simply watch the ocean. We then walked back up to Winchelsea and had lunch in a little pub. It was so nice to explore somewhere completely new and a little off the beaten track.
Do something for the first time. How amazing would it be if you could look back at the end of the year and say that every single weekend you did something new. That could just be a walk in a different park, going to a castle you’ve never been before or attending a gig. I always feel a little blue on Sundays when I am just in the house, so we are going to make every effort to going to different markets in London, to comedy nights or gigs or invite people over and cook new healthy recipes for them. Sunday’s can still be restful but much more enjoyable when you’re doing something new and exciting.
When In Rye
Rye isn’t exactly the liveliest of towns although we did walk past a nightclub, we weren’t really in the clubbing mood and after our fresh fish dinner, we would be in bed by 10pm literally falling asleep. We woke up each morning around 8am feeling bright, rested and ready for a big breakfast and exciting day ahead.
Staying up till 2am watching films because you don’t have to set an alarm for the next day may seem like a good idea at the time but when you’ve wasted half your Saturday in bed feeling overtired then struggle to get dressed by 5pm, it’s not the most productive way to spend the day. Try to keep to the same bedtime and morning routine at the weekend as you do in the week. I know this may be slightly more challenging with nights out but waking up at a reasonable hour, making a healthy breakfast and getting your weekend day started will make you feel so much better. It will also mean getting up on Monday morning won’t be as torturous.
I hope you like these little tips for making the most of your weekend that I got from my break in Rye. Share your fabulous weekend ideas with me and let me know of any UK breaks you love as I am planning on booking many more.
I always hold my The Body event’s on Sundays as well and will have lots more dates coming soon so make sure you sign up to my website for those tickets straight to your inbox, the best way to make the most of the weekend hehe.
