My Story

It’s Mental Health Awareness week. What happens when you do all the right things like exercise, eat well, spend time outdoors, sleep for 8 hours, take time offline but still suffer. What happens if everything in your life is going well, but you wake up one day and your world has turned upside just because of the power of your mind. I never thought I’d struggle with mental health. The best thing I know I can do to raise awareness and help others is to share my own experience of what happened to me this year.

I always thought recovery was a word only used when describing someone getting better from a broken leg and doing Physio exercises or a word used for drug addicts in rehab. I never thought recovery would be the word that defined the start of my 2019. I never thought 2019 would be the year that changed me forever.

Every Little Bit Counts | Sustainability Tips

I’m definitely not a sustainability expert or the best eco warrior out there but it’s hard not to ignore that we are heading towards an environmental crisis point. I am making changes and becoming a more conscious consumer and as cliche as it might sound we need to be the change we want to see in the world. If we can’t positively make change holding onto the hope that every little bit counts then we may as well give up.

So I thought I’d do a little post highlighting some places, books and ideas that are helping me along the way. Everyone is on their own journey when it comes to sustainability but there’s no denying the fact that the planet is in desperate need of some love and everyone has a role to play. I hope this post inspires you to make some positive changes. Please share with friends, every little bit counts…

5 Things To Do In Wales For Your Well-being

colouredhousesintenby.jpg

Last week, I went to Wales for the first time ever and I was yet again stunned by how beautiful the U.K is, especially the coastlines. I jumped on a midday train from London Paddington and by 5:30pm had my feet in the sand walking along Saundersfoot beach (1.5 hrs by train from Swansea) with the sea breeze washing away any excess London tension that didn’t melt away during the train journey. As you know I love getting away from city life regularly and Pembrokeshire was the perfect place for a reset with my bestie Venetia. We have already travelled to Switzerland and Sardinia together this year and are definitely in sync when it comes to an idyllic escape. It involves outdoor activity, finding yummy foodie spots, lots of walking, cake and maybe a perfect glass of wine in a beautiful setting and that’s exactly what Wales offered us- so here’s 5 things I recommend doing in Wales for your wellbeing.

My Current Outlook On What Being Healthy Means

lottiemurphyhealth

I’m quite relaxed when it comes to my choices around food nowadays and would say I have a balanced approach to health and my lifestyle in general. I try not to be too hard on myself anymore. Although perhaps to others it’s still a very conscious outlook and I guess that’s where we need to remember that everyone’s idea of balance is going to be different and dependent on so many factors. I come from a once extreme view where I was obsessed with eating ‘clean’, with performing my absolute best day in day out as a ballet dancer and even since then having moved into a progressive and fast paced health and fitness industry where my early twenties were surrounded by juice cleanses, the rise of avocado on toast and whole lot of abs inspo! I’m happy that I realised that taking care of yourself is not just about lycra and protein shakes.

Foodie And Fitness Hotspots In New York

So I’ve recently had the best week of food in my life in New York, we were visiting my aunty and Sam’s friends who live there and also having a little holiday for ourselves. I’d last been as a teenager with my family and Sam was there for work in his early twenties and told me he spent pretty much every day at Soho House, eye roll, so we definitely wanted to make the most of it this time and of course both being foodies, we had a huge list of foodie spots to get through.

Giving Up On The 5 Year Plan And Focusing On Everyday Life Goals

I’ve always had a strong idea of what I want my life to look like but I’ve never really had a 5 or 10 year plan. I remember thinking from a young age that I just want to be happy every day. I do change my mind a lot and I like to change things up too which is probably why I live the freelance life but some days all I want to do is move away from London and open up a little Pilates studio and cafe by the ocean and have a routine. Then the next day I’m loving London life and the fact every day is so different. The world we live in today is fast paced, things change daily and so do we. If you change your goals or change your mind it doesn’t mean you don’t know who you are or what you want.

The Oh Dear My Holiday Is In A Week Plan

So here it is, the plan that will change your life and turn you into a body confident, oozing sassiness, glowing skin goddess. What everyone wants pre holiday right? Well I’m sorry but that was a little bit of fake news. Unfortunately I can’t make those promises and no plan or person should however I do hope this little 7 day reset will help you feel the bestest version of yourself before your hols. It’s all my top tips and feel good gems thrown into a weekly schedule that will hopefully give you the confidence boost we all want pre jet setting. It’s definitely not about crash dieting or trying to change your body shape entirely, it’s about self respect, a little more rest, a little more movement and just a bit more daily consciousness around the decisions you make.
