I have always had a sweet tooth and have to have something a little sweet after my dinner every night. This is definitely something I’m gradually trying to cut back on but if you’re aware of your sugar intake from all sources then a little night time sweetness won’t hurt. I’ve learnt to try and find healthy quick dessert ideas and they make me happy so I wanted to share them with you if you also crave cheesecake and chocolate pudding at around 8pm.
Friday last week, I was meeting my boyfriend from work for dinner and the theatre, I hadn’t left the house with time to charge my phone up and was on 5% batt! Not panicking, not panicking… PANICKING! As it was date night, I also didn’t have my macbook ,iPad, notebook, diary or pen! I only had me, myself and my low battery iPhone. I was 30 minutes early and sitting waiting patiently in a coffee shop for Jamie. I ordered a mint tea and I knew if I looked at my iPhone my battery would die and I wouldn’t be able to contact Jamie.
I get asked a lot whether my boyfriend eats the same as me, does Pilates, meditates and the answer is no! So how does it work? Firstly I wouldn’t have him be any other way and I love the fact that we work in completely different industries, he is like the little pin that pops my health conscious bubble which, for me, is definitely something I need every now and again!
Breakfast has always been my favourite meal, it’s the first thing I think about when I wake up and possibly sometimes the last thing I think about before I go to sleep, sorry Jamie, I clearly love breakfast more than you.
I’m sure you hear all the time that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but why!? See below for 5 reasons why and then make sure you check out my video this week to follow what I had for breakfast Monday to Friday! I like to have something different pretty much every day, I love variety but if you find a breakfast that works for you and makes you feel fabulous then stick with that. The main thing is that you enjoy your healthy nourishing morning meal! It should set you up for a positive healthy day ahead!
Also listen to your body in the morning, sometimes I prepare my breakfast the night before and then in the morning I don’t fancy it at all so I make something else. If a meal plan you’re following is telling you to have salmon and greens for breakfast and it’s 6am, pouring with rain and all you want is a nice warming bowl of porridge then have the warming bowl of porridge…
1. Be patient. It will happen when the time is right.
2. You can count your true friends on one hand.
3. Sleep is always the priority.
4. Ask for what you want.
5. A glass of red is always a good idea.
6. Feel the fear but do it anyway.
7. Don’t stress over the small stuff, it won’t matter a year from now.
8. Continually learn and improve yourself.
9. Take pride in your appearance.
10. Take a walk, experience fresh air and nature.
This is the first year I’ve had a backpack since I was about 6 and I love it. Backpacks are so fun and I’ve been loving the benefits, especially having free hands to swing around. I have to carry around so much with me and my shoulders and neck were really starting to get tense towards the end of last year. With a backpack the weight is evenly distributed across the body and the strongest muscles in the body, the abdominals and the back support the backpack. Just be aware that you are not leaning forwards to counteract the weight of the pack as this can lead to posture problems! My nice handbags were also getting ruined from being carried around all day and I also fill them up with healthy snacks so I thought right new year, new me, new backpack!
I love adding a bit of colour with accessories and bags as I’m not so daring with the colours I wear so I bought this New Balance Red Check one and I love it! In my latest video I show you it in more detail and all the things I carry in it! I thought it might be interesting to see what a Pilates instructor and healthy lifestyle blogger carries with her day to day and you might be surprised by a few unusual items. Check out my video here! I’ve also picked my favourite four backpacks from ASOS which you can see below. I love the metallic one the best and think I might get that for Spring time…
Okay so its “new year new you” time and I don’t know about you but I am being bombarded with health kick propaganda from every source possible. This is great unless it’s your birthday and your boyfriend’s birthday in January! My birthday is 16th January, next Friday, (FYI yes I am accepting presents by post ;)) and I am certainly going to be enjoying a few glasses of bubbly and eating some cake! However this isn’t the only reason I am not a fan of detoxing/hitting the gym hard in January…
If you are like me at all and have indulged a little much over the last couple of weeks then it’s time to get back on it! I used to think that abs were only made in the kitchen and still believe that diet is a major factor to consider when wanting a flat tummy but I’ve recently been loving and seeing benefits from doing ab routines. I’ve realised that they really do make a difference and when done correctly certainly work up a sweat too and also really help with digestion! If I’ve not managed to get a workout in, then a 5 minute ab routine makes me feel great, positive and flatter!
2015 is going to be a fabulous year for you! Set out with the right intentions, be positive and make this your year! I get so excited at new year because I love fresh starts! I am a fan of resolutions and I make them every year but also believe that every single day can be a fresh start and new opportunity to set goals, be healthier, be kinder and chase dreams! So if it gets to January 8th and you’ve given up on all your resolutions then take a deep breath, re-focus, re-evaluate and start a fresh on January 9th!
Every day is different for me but I thought it might be quite fun for you guys to follow me on a typical midweek day as a Pilates Instructor. In this little 2 minute video you’ll see what time I wake up, what I eat, snack on, where I have a cheeky shop, where I walk and what I see! My dinner was in particularly really yummy and I had made it the night before and then packed it for my dinner the next day too as on Wednesday’s I teach right into the evening! It was oven baked salmon, brown rice, cabbage and broccoli. I then drizzled toasted sesame oil, tamari soy sauce, chilli flakes, black sesame seeds and Himalayan crystal salt on top! You have to try it!
