Whenever I’m feeling a little bit down or low in energy, I know one of the best things to do is to move my body. It doesn’t have to be a full on work out but just some spinal mobility, something to feel my core and some natural flowing movement. This always makes me feel so much better so I thought I’d create a little 10 minute feel good Pilates workout that you can do to boost your energy and mood.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Neals Yard Remedies so when they asked me to teach Pilates on their luxury retreat in beautiful Portugal it was a dream come true! A real “pinch me” moment! Lagos, is a town in the Algarve that I have actually been to numerous times when I was younger with my family and also with my friends as I got older. I never thought that I’d be coming back to work one day. When I say “work”, I mean teach Pilates overlooking the ocean to inspiring incredible women every day then enjoy delicious healthy meals and breathtaking cliff top walks. Yes, still feel like someone should pinch me!

Sunday was my fourth The Body event and I can honestly say they have been the best mornings of my year. The Body event is a Sunday morning to boost your body, mind and soul and this September one felt more needed than ever, for me and for my beautiful guests. The group was smaller this time and I felt a overwhelming sense of sisterhood in the Covent Garden hidden gem SIX3NINE which has been the location for the event so far.

The gorgeous bendy Cat Meffan is one of them. Sitting for 12 hours a day then doing a 20 minute run just isn’t enough to achieve a healthy functional body until old age! As much as I love that Pilates will get you a lean toned physique and perky bum, it’s also the most functional form of exercise. Functional exercise means training the body for exercises performed in every day life. Now what do most of us do all day in every day life? Sit at a desk, drive, get stressed, run, stand squished on a tube? We don’t tend to love our bodies or take care of them.

When it comes to yoga and pilates, I love activewear to be bright coloured, flowery patterned with floating soft fabrics but recently I’ve been doing some more, you could say, ‘kick ass’ workouts and my floral garden leggings just don’t make me feel that kick ass. What I wear when I workout really determines how I feel and perform during the session, it’s kind of like turning up to a coffee catch up on a Sunday with your girlfriends in your job interview attire, you just wouldn’t feel right.
