My Healthy Food Shop Video

We are such nosy people. Especially us girls, we love to know what other people are wearing, eating, going. That’s why social media is so fabulous, instagram and twitter, we get a snap shot of other peoples lives and it’s cool. I don’t find this to be a bad trait at all, it’s where we get inspiration from- each other! That’s where I find cool places to eat, new recipes to try, outfit inspiration. That’s why I love doing videos like this one because it’s something that I’d be interested to watch.

I basically just talk through what I got in the weekly shop this week. I don’t get the same things every week and sometimes I already have things like rice noodles or beans so they won’t be included but I thought this would be interesting for some people to watch who find it hard doing the weekly shop. Sometimes I plan my meals and sometimes I just buy ingredients and then go with the flow. There’s no rules when it comes to living a healthy balanced lifestyle except to eat whole unprocessed foods with a variety of colour and nutrients.

Avocado ‘Mayonnaise’

I love just playing around in the kitchen and it’s when I normally discover my best creations and this avocado cream was one of those times last week. It was Friday and I literally only had what makes this left in my kitchen so put them altogether and what do you get… THE MOST AMAZING AVOCADO CREAMINESS THATS WHAT!

I would say this avocado cream is like a healthy invention- alternative to mayonnaise. I never even used to like mayonnaise in my days before being a healthy bean but I know this tastes 100 x better than the artificial sugary fatty mayonnaise which has almost no nutritional benefits. Mine is of course super good for you and so delicious! I enjoyed my avocado ‘mayonnaise’ mixed into some roasted sweet potatoes with broccoli but you can literally use it in any way you would use regular mayonnaise- with salad, as a dip or spread!

NOSHDETOX 3 Day Juice Cleanse Review

I’ve only ever done a one day juice cleanse before back in March (read my post here) which I really enjoyed and found pretty manageable apart from physically missing chewing food! I said I wanted to give a 3 day one a go and felt that half way through summer was a great time to go for it. This time I was lucky enough to review the Juice Fast with Nosh Detox.

Just to confirm I wasn’t doing a cleanse to lose weight and I generally don’t think that this should be the main reason for anyone doing a cleanse however I like the thought of giving my digestive system a little break and gut time to heal and as a way of getting my skin glowing mid summer and to balance out a few alcohol filled weekends!

This was a fruit cleanse too which I was a little sceptical about due to the concern of too much sugar however the great thing about it is the smoothies are whole pieces of fruit blended with super foods and water. Nosh do not separate the juice and pulp! “Fresh Fruit fibre keeps you fuller for longer and the fibre releases the fruit sugars slowly unlike pasteurised concentrated juices.” Nosh

Note: Due to the fact the juices were just blended fruit, I did decide to eat some avocado and some leafy greens each day too. This is because I know my body and I have relatively low body fat so it’s important for my hormones to eat good fats every day. As I am not strict with any detox or cleanse I do, I believe this was important.

Day 1

The first thought I normally have when I wake up is… BREAKFAST- MMMM! This is what I had when I woke up and then realised oh actually I have a ginger and lemon tonic and then aren’t supposed to drink my first smoothie until 11am eek! However after my hot water and lemon, a nice shower and a little down time watching the news, I didn’t feel hungry or like I needed breakfast at all. I felt energised and ready to get to work.

Live Each Day Like You’ve Time Traveled

If you’ve watched the film ‘About Time’ with Rachel McAdams then you might understand the title of this blog post a little better. If you haven’t watched the film, then watch it!

It’s so beautiful, it’s my idea of a perfect film infact, probably not for every one but for soppy sods like me! Let me give you a little insight, it’s basically a romantic comedy about man who has the ability to travel back to times in his life and change things in order to improve his future.

It inspired me to write this post…

Imagine right now if you could actually travel in time…


Do you ever have those moments when you say the wrong thing at the wrong time and just wish so much that you could go back even 10 minutes to not say it. Or wish you could go back to a job interview having known all the questions you’ll be asked. Even consider dramatic situations- accidents, car crashes- what if you could go back and stop them from happening.

But us mere mortals can’t time travel, we have to live with the fact that what we do in the present moment is irreversible, it’s lost, gone forever and our future is determined by the exact moment you are living right now.

So what are you doing in your present moment right now! If your future self could time travel back to today and only today, how would you live right now differently? Would your mood be the same? Would you be arguing, huffing puffing, would you be irritated, moaning, lazy? Or would you live today differently the second time around…

Spanish Traditional Gazpacho – Recipe Video

Whilst in Barcelona, my mum and I did such an amazing cooking class where we learnt how to make some traditional Spanish recipes including a Spanish omelette, paella, creme de catalana and a gazpacho.

The gazpacho was so tasty and the healthiest and easiest of all the recipes we learnt so I wanted to share it with you in this little video. Gazpacho is a cold soup, made of vegetables, a little vinegar and olive oil and it’s so refreshing. I really loved it and it honestly is so easy to make and can be enjoyed straight away as a light lunch/dinner or stored in the fridge as a delicious drink or snack…

Get the Manuka Honey Low Down

I’ve recently been having a teaspoon of Manuka honey each or every other day. I bought a pot a couple of months a go when I came down with a really yucky cough and cold and I knew it was meant to be contain “superpowers” to aid cold symptoms and was also recommended to take it by my holistic health coach friend. It really did help my cold and cough and I also felt it eased my tummy and was also a very yummy part of my day. I now continue to take the odd tsp in my hot lemon water in the morning and sometimes have a cheeky tsp in the evening straight from the pot, just because I’m crazy like that!

It is an expensive product but that’s because it’s not your average honey. The honey comes from bees that feed on New Zealand Manuka trees. When looking to buy Manuka honey there are certain things you should look for. It’s also important to look for NPA (non peroxide activity) on the pot referring to the unique additional antibacterial properties of Manuka honey and the term used in the lab when testing this. When research was done on the honey is was found that Manuka honey was unusual as it had high levels of antibacterial activity that was non-peroxide meaning it’s not affected when present with serum, saliva, blood and the other tissues in the body. Not all Active Manuka honey is NPA so as you can see it’s worth finding a good brand if you’re going to invest in it.


I didn’t know this until recently, I was sent a pot and some information from a great brand Green Bay. It was obvious how different the Active Manuka honey I’d got before from health stores was to the Green Bay NPA Active Manuka honey. The colour was lighter, texture thicker and lumper and taste was less sweet but it tasted so much healthier! I could literally see how raw and unprocessed Green Bays was in comparison to the other Manuka honey. I know that’s a funny way to describe something but it felt better for me! I know to listen to my body! Authentic Manuka Honey will have NPA mentioned and this is important if you really want to be getting the health benefits!


Raw Coconut and Quinoa Bites

Snacking is probably my favourite hobby! I used to love any kind of cereal bar before it became common health foodies knowledge about the fact they are actually very unhealthy, processed and sugary! I now would only enjoy nakd bars as a shop bought packaged snack as they literally only contain dates and nuts but after finding so many amazing healthy food blogs online I discovered the bliss ball/snack ball/round bite wonders that are simply raw ingredients blended together and frozen.

These Raw Coconut and Quinoa Bites are seriously good, so good infact that I left a Tupperware of them in the fridge and my boyfriend had devoured three of them by the time I’d got home and this is saying something when it comes to my boyfriend and anything remotely healthy let alone ‘raw’ and ‘vegan’.

There is no sweetener added to these as they really don’t need it. The medjool dates make them delicious enough blended with quinoa flakes, pecans and chia seeds making them a perfect afternoon energy boost, quick morning out the door breakfast or delicious dessert combined with some coconut or greek yogurt.

I decided to use quinoa flakes as an alternative to oats as they are gluten free but are generally the much healthier option, really easy to digest, a complete protein and contain high levels of antioxidants…

How do Spanish Women Stay So Slim- The Barcelona Series

If you follow me on social media you will know that I have just been on a wonderful break to Barcelona with my lovely mama.  We packed so much into our four days and really tried to absorb ourselves in the Barcelona way of life and learn as much about the lifestyle, culture and city as we could at the same time as trying to get some time to relax in the glorious warm sunshine! Barcelona really is a treat!

My first post from my Barcelona blog series is a question my mum asked to a very talented michelin star chef (Amelia) who was also very Spanish and very slim! We were lucky enough to have a Spanish cooking experience with Amelia. Spending time chatting, walking around the market and cooking traditional Spanish dishes with her! The question my mum asked was “we’ve noticed all the women here are very slim and beautiful, how do you stay so slim considering the spanish diet is known for bread, paella, olive oil, wine?!”

I wanted to answer this question with notes from what Amelia said and also from what my mum and I observed during our time in Barcelona. It’s always interesting to learn from other cultures and to get ideas and inspiration for a healthier lifestyle from around the world so I hope you enjoy this post…

Overnight Oaty Avocado Bowl

Two of my favourite breakfast options are overnight oats and avocado smoothie bowls so I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to combine them. One morning last weekend, I was about the dig into my amazing overnight oats and caught a glimpse of a little lonely avocado on the side. It was a “ah ha” moment.

You have to try this! The combination of soaked oaty chia seeds in nut milk and mashed banana with the crunchy tasty bits of pumpkins seeds and cacao nibs is then blended with the creamy avocado to make the most amazing filling and super healthy brekkie. I would definitely recommend this breakfast if you need to be kept going for a few hours.


1/2 banana

1 cup of homemade almond or any non dairy milk you love (I use a variety but homemade almond milk is the best)

4 to 5 tbsp oats

1 tbsp chia seeds

handful of pumpkin seeds

handful of cacao nibs

1/2 avocado

1 tsp honey/maple syrup (optional)
