Sniff, sniff, cough cough, snuffle snuffle, sneeeeze!! That is all, here’s the soup you need!! I made this in the week and honestly my nose was like praise the lorddddd I can breathe again and then I slept like a baby! Its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, de congesting, circulation aiding and yummy!
Coconut Oil (1 tbsp)
3 garlic cloves

Do you ever feel like you are constantly just trying to fit in, be liked, be understood, be like your neighbours, be like your best friends, be like your workmates? We all want to belong, it’s part of human nature. However, we don’t all have the same beliefs and interests, therefore it’s impossible for you to fit in and belong everywhere and with everyone and it can be quite exhausting to try to! I witness and observe so many people who are constantly trying to fit in and it’s sad because those people completely lose a sense of self and understanding of who they are!
You’ll know who the people are who have absolutely no desire to fit in because they are the ones we all want to be! They are the vibrant healthy and confident people who we always want to know what’s going on in their lives. They are the go to person for something or other. You can be that person! Be proud of who you are, don’t be in the closet with your views and opinions, be that vibrant healthy person!
I used to feel a little oppressed for being a “healthy” eater! It sometimes does feel like I don’t fit in. I don’t eat dominoes pizza with my neighbours, I make homemade soup, I shop for organic food, I order juices instead of McDonalds milkshakes but so what! I’m proud of my decision to respect, care and look after my body and I’m happy to be that go to person for my friends and family when it comes to health, fitness and often life in general!

Similar to a fad diet, the first day went fantastically and I got through the whole day with no distractions and then it all went a bit downhill. It is seriously harder than you’d think to eat sitting down with nothing else to do, I’m talking no phone, no TV, no magazine, nothing! It was such a struggle and I actually had to force myself by leaving my phone in other rooms and even sat on the stairs one morning because it was the only location in my house with no distractions.
Normally for breakfast I have a little routine, I make my lemon water and porridge/smoothie or whatever I’m having and then I sit on my sofa and put on Good Morning Britain. This is the only time in my day that I can have 15 minutes to catch up on the news and weather and I actually really missed it when I was attempting this challenge because one of the rules is NO TV! I sat and appreciated every mouthful of my porridge and felt full and satisfied but not too much different. Lunch and dinner were easier because I’m normally on the go so it was quite nice to just sit somewhere and take some time out from my emails/phone to enjoy what I’d prepared for my meal.
I love hot chocolate and used to order one from any Costa, Nero, Starbucks I passed. I also used to make my own “low calorie” “healthy” options at home from the little satchets you get at the supermarket, I can’t believe in the winter I used to get through these satchets like my nanny used to get through teabags!
Unfortunately, most hot chocolates wherever you get them from are normally full of a weird kind of fat reduced cocao powder, sugar, sweeteners and milk powders. They are probably the worst thing to order from a coffee shop especially if you can’t resist all that whipped cream on top!
But I’m not giving up my love for hot chocolate that easy! It’s really simple to make your own super healthy and natural hot chocolate at home and I know this recipe is going to see me through the cold months ahead! I’m lucky that I feel I’ve found a great healthy balance with regards to my lifestyle so that I don’t fluctuate in weight or body shape and I feel confident pretty much all year round. Here’s my top tips to having a hot healthy body 12 months a year!
1. MOVE YOUR BODY EVERY DAY
Whether it be a run, intense interval session, Pilates/yoga class or a walk, I make sure I move my body every day. When I don’t move, I feel sluggish and stressed. Not only does moving every day keep you toned and flexible, I feel it gives you a great healthy glow which is another thing we want all year round! Keeping your body moving every day means your not starting from square one every time you want to get in shape. There might be times of the year when you want to up your fitness routine but don’t go from all to nothing or vice versa, keep moving every day!
2. TREAT YOURSELF
I don’t like to restrict myself when it comes to my diet. My advice to maintain a healthy weight all year round is the 80/20% rule. Eat healthy clean nourishing foods 80% of the time but the other 20% treat yourself a little. Whether you’re craving chocolate or a glass of red wine, enjoy it! I believe this keeps your metabolism and your mind healthy and stops the tendency to binge/ over indulge. It’s unlikely that you are never going to eat a carb or grain of sugar again in your life so every thing in moderation is best.
I am always terrible at making omelettes! Give me boiled, poached or scrambled eggs any day but omelettes are just so tricky to get perfectly right and in that lovely folded half. Well I then discovered a cheat way to a delicious omelette with inspiration from a recipe in one of the Honestly Healthy books. Baking it! It requires no folding and makes the omelette taste so delicious!
The great thing about omelettes is that you can literally chuck anything you want in them. They are perfect day before food shop dinners as all you need is eggs and whatever ingredients you have left! You simply put ingredients in a little pancake size pan then pour over your eggs, wait for them to cook a little around the edges and then place the saucepan in the oven to bake for 10-15mins.
This was another of my recipe experiments when I had hardly anything left in the kitchen- this is starting to become a habit but it is when my best creations are discovered! I love love love feta and the combination of it here with tomato and paprika makes a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner!! …
Do you eat breakfast watching the news, lunch scrolling through emails, snacks scanning instagram and dinner while on the phone? When did we become so busy that sitting down and enjoying a meal without doing anything else now seems impossible!
I am determined to start mindful eating!
I’ve recently become aware that I really struggle with this but there’s a pull inside me that knows I need to address it. That’s why this post isn’t about me saying”hey look how great I am at this, you should do it too!”, it’s about me saying “hey look how pants I am at this, help me tackle this step in improving my wellbeing and why don’t you give it a go too!”
So what is mindful or conscious eating and why is it so important?
Stretching can seem like a chore but a lot of people don’t understand the importance of it. If your priority is always to get a cardio, interval or a weight training session in because of time then let me tell you this could be where you could have been going wrong and stretching can change the way you approach your fitness forever! Your training will improve from regular stretching, your body will feel free of tension and be more capable to perform certain moves that may be required of you in workouts as well as in general everyday life. Regular stretching can prevent you from many problems in the future and especially with back pain.
Stretching will increase the range of movement at your joints, release tight muscles and keep connective tissue pliant creating balance in your body. This means lengthened and lean muscles and a healthy supple bod. I also believe there is a relationship between a flexible mobile body and the mind. If you body is free of tension then so your mind will be.
I know it can be hard getting to an extra yoga or Pilates session so here are my favourite stretches that you can do at home easily to start or end your day. Hold each stretch for 20-30 secs and ease in and out of the stretch if it’s really uncomfortable. Do each one once a day and if you really want to see improvements in your flexibility then 2-3 times a day.
