As we head towards cold rainy dark mornings, it becomes increasingly more challenging to get the trainers on a 6am for a class or run but I really believe if you look the part you feel the part. Stylish activewear gets me excited to workout and if I can grab brunch in it with the girls after then I’m so much more likely to get out the door. With so so much choice for activewear nowadays it’s hard to know where to start, stylist and co-founder of Style Sportif Jemma Bolt kindly shares her top five activewear trends. Just wait for the Adidas jacket (heart shaped eyes emoji). Jemma can you please style me everyday…
With the growing popularity of activewear, it looks like this is one trend that is definitely here to stay – and we are pretty happy about that! Seeing as it has become such a part of our daily wardrobe, inevitably the world of activewear now has to keep up with all the same trends that you get in the ‘normal’ fashion world. It’s no longer good enough to just chuck on a black pair of leggings and a promotional t-shirt from a concert you went to see five years ago, with activewear brands are dominating the market place it’s now all about looking on point. If you’re not sure where to start, fear not – whether you’re at the barre or going for an autumnal run, we’ve got the new season’s hot trends you ALL need to know about covered!
Following Team GB’s incredible placement on the medal table at the Rio Olympics last month, we’ve gone primary colour mad in support of our homeland! Think bright reds, navy blues and crisp whites. Two of our favourites are the navy Eleven Leggings from uber cool British brand LNDR, and the Sixty Ninety Pocket Leggings in Sangria. In fact we love the whole collection from new Brazilian-inspired brand Sixty Ninety, a favourite with celebs including Millie Mackintosh – check out their range on Style Sportif.
Unitards were all over the festivals this summer, and with brands like Ekatsuits leading the way with their whacky prints, they certainly brought the fun factor. But for subtler brands like Pepper and Mayne their bestseller has been the unitard too. Unitards are ideal for the barre and have the added bonus of making you like you could be part of the national ballet crew…well maybe not! We’re loving the Seamless Compression Unitard from Pepper and Mayne which will be landing on Style Sportif very soon!
These have long been a favourite of mine, mainly because they give any outfit an urban edge. You can wear your most feminine sparkly skirts and crop tops, but throw a track jacket over the top and you’ve got instant swag. Plus with autumn just around the corner they provide a stylish extra layer to keep you warm on your way to the gym or studio. Look out for the House of Holland x Umbro collaboration launching soon – as designer collaborations go it doesn’t get much better! In the meantime this vivid red Adidas track jacket will blow away any autumn blues, and ties in nicely with the primary colours trend.
Be brave, be bold and get some compliments on your workout gear, even if you are skiving off from your workout and just meeting friends for coffee. Nothing says ‘I’m a women on the go’ more than a bold pair of leggings – in fact the bolder, the better!
Uber luxury brand Sarah & Sorrentino is certainly one to watch – we love the bright tones of the Green Dala Dala Leggings. Or paint the world pink with the err..Paint the World Pink Leggings from new British brand Flip The Dog. They’re made out of recycled plastic bottles too so you’ll be doing your bit for the environment whilst looking stylish – double whammy!
We all know how big activewear is now, and inevitably that means celebs want a piece of the action. However they are no longer happy just wearing the trend, they now want to design it or collaborate on it, with everyone from Rita Ora and Beyoncé to Kate Hudson has jumped on the bandwagon. But these collaborations aren’t just limited to the high street, as seen in the recent Nike collaborations with both Riccardo Tisci and Olivier Rousteing, and no doubt there will be further collaborations in the pipeline over the next year. Of the high street collections, Beyoncé’s Ivy Park is here to stay, and the Logo Crew Neck Tee is great to throw over any gym kit, plus it’s a great price point for the younger activewear lover. And let’s be honest here – who doesn’t wish they were Beyoncé?!
If you’re going bold then it’s Rita’s Adidas Originals line all of the way – the track jackets are fab, and perfect for heading into autumn.
So these are the top five activewear trends you need to watch out for over the next year, and with the collections being so accessible, there’s no excuse to get involved!
